Living Sacrifice (2008)

My recent post about seeing Extol play Furnace Fest, with Bruce Fitzhugh on vocals, reminded me that I had photos of Bruce’s band, Living Sacrifice, from a 2008 appearance at Cornerstone Music Festival sitting in my archives.

Living Sacrifice formed in 1989 and had a huge influence on the scene I loved growing up. Like many other bands you’ll find featured in these pages, they expressed their faith openly and still played the music they loved. Not in contradiction, but blending the complex themes found throughout the bible, of struggle and overcoming, slavery and freedom, passion and sacrifice, and pairing them with music that match the intensity of feeling found in those pages.

Ever changing and evolving in their sound, they stayed relevant to the extreme music scene. Journeying through genres and experimenting in instrumentation, they were an inspiration to many who followed after.

Although I discovered them later on, I’m so pleased I got to not only see them, but capture these moments and share this little known piece of history.
