The Showdown (2007)

I’ve lived in Nashville, TN for many years at this point, but growing up in the UK, I wasn’t really aware of the style of country music popular here. Maybe Shania Twain made it through, but that was weird American music.

Enter The Showdown.

Decidedly not country music, but these good ol’ boys from Eastern Tennessee played southern metal, a style that dabbled within various sub-genres of metal, but filtered everything through their surroundings and culture in the American South. An introduction to me which laid the foundations for my understanding of what would eventually become my new home.

I’ve managed to see them many times throughout the years, from many times at Cornerstone Music Festival, to these photos here in London when they maid it out to the UK. And most recently I caught them in 2024 when they reformed to play at Furnace Fest in Birmingham, AL. Still putting on an amazing high-energy show after all these years.

Catching them recently reminded me that I had a load of old photos sitting on hard-drives that really deserved to be brushed off and see the light of day again. So here they are…
